SUMMARY:Gold Marker Installation at Willamette National Cemetery *DATE CHANGE*
DESCRIPTION:Please take note: The date of this event has changed to Sunday\, September 27th\, 2026. \nNational Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day is observed annually on the last Sunday in September (September 27\, 2026) to honor the families of fallen U.S. military service members. Established in 1936\, this day recognizes the sacrifices of those who lost a child\, spouse\, or loved one in service. \nPurpose: To honor\, remember\, and support families who have lost loved ones in military service to the United States. \nHistory: Officially designated by Congress in 1936 to be observed on the last Sunday in September\, originally focusing on mothers. \nExpansion: In 2011\, the day was formally amended to “Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day” to include all families. \nSymbolism: The “Gold Star” originates from the service flags displayed by families during World War I; a blue star represented a family member serving\, and a gold star replaced it if the member died in the line of duty. \nNote: Parking at this event is extremely limited. Please carpool and kindly consider leaving closer parking areas free for people with mobility issues. \nSee you there!
