Plant Oregon with Nature Playgrounds.
Creating safe environments for children to explore natural features and wild spaces on their own terms encourages their affinity for nature.
OSFGC, Inc. President, Tanja, would like our Oregon clubs to look for similar types of parks in their area and send her the information, (links, pictures, etc.) for consideration of inclusion in a book she will be putting together and we are excited to find several Nature Parks in our Northwest regions.
To explore parks designed to connect children with nature oriented playgrounds, visit in person or by searching online the websites for Westmoreland Park, Portland, OR, and North Mountain Park, Ashland, OR, two parks representative of the natural elements to look for. Let’s pitch in and support her in this project!
An extension of this project is a challenge for all clubs and members to look for opportunities in your area for lobbying more parks and recreation areas to include Children’s Nature Parks in the planning and renovation of local community spaces. As gardeners, we understand and value the lessons, epiphanies, and mental/physical well being the natural world provides us. Let’s turn this project into a continuing effort of helping our children connect with the earth in a sustainable, caring fashion, so they may enjoy a lifetime of benefit and discovery.
